Why Academic Writing Classes are Important for Grad School Students

College Writing Classes are important. I’m talking about the boring ones, the ones that teach you how to write thesis statements, structure a paper, research and cite sources properly. When you graduate and go on to get a Masters and eventually a Doctorate, you’re going to have to write a lot even though you’re studying something besides English. Sure, you can pay someone to edit your prepublication journal articles and research for you, but as students you don’t want to spend more money on school–you’re already broke and getting further into debt everyday.

Yes, I know that as an editor, I make money from higher education students not knowing how to write. I need the money, but I also know my clients need the money as well. The less editing I have to do for them means the less they have to pay, and an easy way to save a buck with academic editors is to know the basics of writing. Academic writing classes are available at colleges to help students understand how to write their work for publication.
